I’m always trying to get my kids excited about writing, and creative writing is one of the ways I do that. This list of 25 fun writing prompts is for grades 3–5 (but could be used with 1st and 2nd grades with a bit of tweaking), and can be used any time during the winter. Besides using the prompts as a whole-class activity, you could use them for writing journals, for centers, or even as a homework assignment. When students are finished writing, it’s fun to make an art project to go with their writing! You can find lots of free art ideas on my Pinterest Boards, called Winter Fun.
